Owning a horse would be pretty pointless, or more or less painful, if you do not have a saddle to ride the horse with. If you were to attempt to ride a horse without a saddle, then you might succumb to an incredibly painful ride. A saddle is meant to fasten to the horses back comfortably while also providing a sturdy seat for the rider to sit on comfortably. Several hundred years ago, saddles were still used, but they were cruder, essentially just being a pad roughly tied to the horses back. Saddles have evolved quite some time since then and have now there are different types of saddles for different styles of riding as well.

While there are different types of saddles, let’s take a look at the basic foundation in which a saddle is set up. The actual foundation in which the saddle sits atop is called the saddle tree. Naturally there is a seat as well where the rider sits, this also includes the pommel and the cantle which are the front and back of the seat. A cinch strap is essentially just a strap that goes around the horse that holds the saddle in place. Stirrups hang down from the saddle and are there for the rider to put his or her feet in when riding. The components listed above are the basic, essential components to a saddle without going into too much detail.

There are so many different types of horse saddles that can be bought, each different type catering to a different style of riding. Two of the most widely used types of saddles are English and Western. English saddles are widely used in many different Olympic and equestrian sporting events around the world. Western saddles are built to keep the rider comfortable for long periods of riding over rough terrain; western saddles are the type of saddle most commonly seen in movies and at the rodeo. There are various other types of saddles used as well such as military, police, hunt-seat, racing, dressage, pack and show saddles. Essentially, no matter what kind of riding you do, there is most likely a specific style of saddle that is meant for your style of riding.

When shopping for a saddle, it is important that you bring along an individual or friend that knows a lot about horses and saddles, otherwise you may end up buying the wrong horse saddle. It is important that before buying a saddle you hop up on top of it and make sure that it is comfortable for you to sit on. It is also equally as important to make sure that the saddle fits your horse in every aspect. The saddle needs to be fitted for both you and your horse to ensure a proper yet comfortable fit for both parties involved.

You just shelled out the big bucks for that prized horse that you have always wanted, so now you really do not have much of a budget left to buy a saddle and other essential equipment. Saddles are one of the most expensive pieces of equipment that you need to ride a horse. However, while buying a brand new saddle would be perfect, it may just be a bit out of your price range. Lucky for you though, there is a such thing as used saddles. So rather than spending a lot of money on an expensive new saddle, you can probably find a used saddle that still gets the job done for relatively cheap.

If you have made the decision to go ahead and begin the search for a used saddle, then the best place to look is locally. Go into town and pick up a newspaper and sift through the classifieds, chances are there will be at least one or two people that are trying sell their used saddles. You could also go by the local equestrian or outdoor stores and ask around, you would be surprised at the responses you get. Make sure to also look on the windows of these stores as a lot of the times you will find flyers and ads for people trying to sell something; maybe even a saddle. However, it is important that a saddle fit both you and the horse, so it may take a bit of time to finally find the perfect used horse saddle.

If you are not having much luck finding a used horse saddle locally, then it is time to utilize technology. Get on your computer and open up your favorite search engine, such as Google, Yahoo, Bing or whatever, and just type in “used horse saddles.” Upon clicking the search button, you should be overwhelmed with thousands of results; although only the first and second pages may be relevant and beneficial. You should find quite a few websites that offer new and used horse saddles, and hopefully one that fits. Simply look through all the different websites until hopefully you find one that’s not only perfect for you and your horse, but perfect for your wallet as well.

If you still are not having much luck finding a used horse saddle, then it is time to use technology and go local at the same time. Get on a few of the online classified sites such as Craigslist and search for a horse saddle in or near your local area. A lot of people are choosing to list ads online in free classified sites rather than paying to take out an ad in the newspaper. If that does not work try looking on online auction sites such as eBay, however the used horse saddles you find there may not be local so the person selling them may require you to pay an additional shipping fee.

Listed above are a few quick and easy ways to begin your quest to find a used saddle that will not kill your bank account. It is important that when you find a cheap saddle, you make sure it fits your horse as well as you, that way the two of you are as comfortable as possible. If you utilize all of the options mentioned, then you should be riding your horse in a matter on no time because you’re bound to find a cheap used horse saddle eventually.

If you own a horse, it is pretty much assured that you own a saddle, but did you know that there are several different types of saddle that are built to cater to different riding styles. You may have just though your saddle was a saddle, but the truth is that you could have a saddle that is not as comfortable for your horse or even you because it is not the right type of saddle. There are general purpose saddles that can be used for just anything, but they may not be as comfortable for you or the horse as they should be; your cue to learn about the different types of saddles.

There are basically six different types of saddles, but that includes general purpose saddles which were already mentioned so that knocks it down to five types; English, western, hunt-seat, dressage and show saddles.

English saddles take after their name suggests because they are used widely in most English style riding disciplines. It is important to note that these saddles are not only used in English speaking countries, they are widely used in most countries for any equestrian or Olympic events. The point of English saddles are to allow the horse to be able to move freely, which is essential if the horse is to be running, reining, vaulting or anything similar. If the horse is restricted then he or she will not be able to perform as well as he or she could if not restricted.

Western style saddles are the stereotypical saddles you would see in movies. Theses saddles are usually seen on cattle ranches, at rodeos or on horses that are taking guests for rides. Western saddles are mean to help make the rider feel secure and comfortable, even for long periods of time. If you are to be riding a horse for a long period of time, especially on rough and rigorous terrain, then a western saddle is probably the best way to go.

Western and English style saddles are two of the most widely used saddles among horse enthusiasts, but there are also hunt-seat, dressage and show saddles that are used as well. Hunt-seat saddles were built originally to be used for fox hunting. Hunt-seat saddles are also widely used for shows and jumping events and are meant to keep the rider secure during these activities. If you are trying to show off your prized horse as best as possible, then a dressage saddle is the saddle for you. Dressage saddles are cut significantly deeper than other types of saddles so that your horse looks as good as possible. Show saddles are similar to dressage saddles except that show saddles are much more decorative.

There are also racing saddles that are built to allow a rider or jockey to lean as far forward as possible. There are many different types of saddles, but determining which type of saddle if right for you all depends on the style or type of riding that you do. Once you determine that then it should be relatively simple to choose the right saddle. Try doing a little more research on your own to learn more about the different types of saddles.

Horses are widely owned around the world and are sometimes used for specific purposes and jobs. Usually, horses are ridden for a variety of different reasons, whether for a job, task or merely for pleasure; but either way your horse is going to need a saddle for you to ride him or her comfortably. Without a saddle, you entire body would be subject to straddling a horse, riding him or her, and enduring all the constant bounces that come naturally as the horse trots; this is why a saddle is important or else you are in for a painful ride.

A saddle is basically a seat that fits on top of your horse that will allow for you to ride him or her as comfortable as possible. The saddle is usually fitted for both you and your horse to ensure a proper fit for both. The saddle should fit comfortably on the horse’s back while also being comfortable enough for you to sit on top of it.

Not only should the saddle be a perfect fit for both you and your horse, but there are also different types of saddles that correspond with different styles of riding. The typical western saddle, while widely seen in movies and at rodeos, is also widely used for a specific purpose. Western saddles are usually used in rough terrain setting where the rider is on the horse for long periods of time; the western saddle style is supposed to keep the rider comfortable. The English style saddle is also widely used, especially in equestrian and Olympic events because it is meant to allow the horse to move, jump and rein freely, allowing him or her to perform at his best.

The English and western style saddles are two of the most popular styles of saddles, but there are quite a few other styles of saddles that are meant for other purposes. Dressage and show saddles are designed to help the horse look his best. Racing saddles are meant to allow a jockey to lean all the way forward during a race to allow for optimal performance. You can kind of get a picture now that no matter what style of riding you practice;
